There are many ways in which people successfully Quit Smoking — some remain non-smokers for (a longer) life, some unfortunately restart smoking within weeks or months of having quit. People start smoking again, not because of a lack of "will-power" or because they are weak, but because of the danger of just one cigarette.
Nicotine (the active drug in your cigarette) is a highly addictive drug — the reason that just one cigarette is enough to have you hooked again. Nicotine is more addictive than many other hard drugs including marijuana, MDMA (ecstasy), methamphetamine, LSD, alcohol and even heroin & crack cocaine.
The Program is designed to help you through pitfalls and danger points through to your recovery from nicotine addition.
These are other ways in which people can successfully stop smoking:-
The Will-Power Method can work but is statistically the most unsuccessful approach. Using personal will-power you can ride-out all of the physical & psychological withdrawal symptoms. If you were ship-wrecked on an uninhabited island with plentiful food & water — but no cigarettes — you could & would survive easily. Will Power is all about convincing yourself that you never need or want another cigarette.
Self-Help Books can & do work. We hear about permanent ex-smokers who have succeeded using books or tapes, including Allen Carr's Easy Way to Stop Smoking.
Hypnotherapy is another way in which people Quit Smoking. One or more sessions with a hypnotherapist generally involve gathering information for your personal reasons for wanting to quit smoking. The sessions include hypnotherapy techniques, positive messages and suggestions.
Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. There are nicotine gums, patches, inhalers, tablets, lozenges, and sprays most of which you can buy from the drug store. A course on NRT works by gradually reducing the amount of Nicotine delivered by the patch or gum — weaning you off nicotine dependency. Using any Nicotine Replacement Therapy while smoking is highly dangerous. NRT has a success rate less than 17%‡ (for smokers not smoking after 1 year)
Zyban® and Wellbutrin are both names for the drug called bupropion, an anti-depressant drug. Originally this drug was used to treat depression. A proportion of Smokers who used it for this purpose quit smoking. Zyban must be prescribed by your physician, and is not suitable for all patients. Zyban has a success rate of about 30%‡ (for smokers not smoking after 1 year)
The Program with the SMART™ Shot are a combination a working support program and FDA-approved drugs injected in the hip. The SMART™ Shot combines scopolamine (an ingredient used in the sea-sickness patch) and Atarax (an antihistamine like Benadryl) in a unique formula to block nicotine receptors in the brain and help ease the physical withdrawal from quitting smoking. Our success rate is currently greater than 70%. (for smokers not smoking after 1 year)
Never starting smoking is obviously the best option!
